AMI GE Hydro Plant - Boott Hydroelectric Plant's Increase in Efficiency Powered by Hammond Electric
The Boott Hydroelectric plant is located at a national historic site in downtown Lowell on the Merrimack River. Since acquiring the plant in 1986, Enel Power's priorities have included driving revenues through plant automation efforts.
Based on prior work with GE Energy, Hammond Electric was part of the proposed and contracted team, along with AMI GE, to drive operational efficiencies for the primary 17.3mw plant and its four smaller plants dating back to the early 1900s. Hammond Electric was responsible for installation of all electrical components involved in the plant automation efforts.
How Hammond Improved Operational Efficiency of the Plant
To drive operational efficiencies, Hammond was charged with installing all electrical components and control apparatus while adhering to stringent safety protocols required for this complex, multi-phased project. Safety was of utmost importance, with special considerations given to confined spaces, fall protection and zero energy / LOTO.
Hammond Electric installations included:
- Utility grade metering
- PLC controls
- Plant automation
